How I keep myself sane
It's been about 15 months since I switched to dumbphone so I decided it might be useful for someone to know what it's been like. Also sharing the tech I use on the daily.
I first used 30€ nokia for a month and then got my light phone. Best purchase I've ever made. There's no infinite feeds to keep you scrolling. These feeds drain your brain so much. I can't afford to have my head tired on that limited window between trainings. The difference to nokia is that it has podcasts so it's great to listen to them on long trainings. It isn't water resistant at all so I always put it in plastic bag when training. Really only thing bad is that it doesn't have scandinavian keyboard layout so I can't type ä or ö letters which are kind of frequent in finnish:D. I coded a sms service that uses gpt to text me back the text with those letters correct so I can manage haha.
On my macbook I use Cold Turkey App Blocker. I have all social media blocked except twitter which has 60min per day allowance window. 9pm-8am I have all the internet and apps blocked except chatgpt and terminal. Those two are open in a case I get inspiration to code something (inspiration is perishable like Naval says). I use this blocker since the blocks can be locked with password which I gave to my mom, so If I wanted to unlock these I would have to call my mom xd.
I use Qwant search engine since it let's me search specific youtube videos and watch them in the qwant without going into youtube(since I have it blocked). This way I can search my fav youtubers still, without getting sucked into the algorithms. I'm thinking of making a new website that let's me search youtube videos or other stuff from these kinds of platforms without infinite feeds.
I use kindle to read in bed. It's great. It also has very simple browser that I can read some blogs on.
I use those sony noise cancelling headphones and they are great in the library.
