school and sports

Hey! I decided to write some thoughts about doing school on the side while being a full-time athlete.

So I've been studying computer science remotely at Tampere University for almost two years now and have learned a lot of technical stuff of course, but also about life management.

Number one thing I've had to figure out is how to learn. You don't learn just by trying to put stuff to your brain - it won't stick. You learn by:

  1. put some stuff to your brain (read, watch)
  2. take it out (write,do)
  3. put some other stuff to your brain (read, watch)
  4. take the first stuff out again (write,do)
  5. repeat

Doing only school will kill your soul if you are creative person. You NEED side projects - they will give you energy.

Studying remotely is pretty lonely. Following tech people on twitter and reading Hackernews makes still feel like I belong somewhere though. Also I'm lucky to have one friend prannikko.fi here in Vuokatti who I can talk tech with:].

My day normally looks like this:

I'll add here stuff if something comes to mind in the future, but with these you can maybe get some idea, what I'm doing.
